The great-grandmother has difficulty with Maya's choice. Maya is her favourite and when Maya was little, she made her great-grandmother very happy; Maya was always cheerful, helpful, and smart, in short: the great-grandchild of her dreams.

Now that Maya is an adult woman and has entered into marriage with Irina, it is a sore point for great-grandmother. She would have preferred to see Maya come home with a different kind of partner. Maya's grandma sees it differently; Maya is an independent woman who can make her own choices in life. It is not for others to criticize that. The conflict between grandmother and great-grandmother has escalated to the point where the massive inheritance of great-grandmother is at stake. How awful!
