Hello, I am Maya. I was lonely, but then visitors of Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen figured out my character and found me a partner. Now, I am at the centre of a huge family. In this digital family tree, you can find my family members and explore our relationships with each other.
Phase 2aLooking for a partner
To end my loneliness, I want to start dating. But where do I start? The Boijmans collection has over 155,000 pieces! Students from two Rotterdam schools suggest thirteen potential suitors, but still, I can't choose. By voting, visitors eventually help me find my perfect match.
Phase 2bPerfect match
After an exciting battle Irina emerges as the winner. I move into Irina's showcase and am no longer alone. Many contestants witness our wedding, and we make it a great party. We also receive a mountain of congratulation cards.
Phase 3The family grows
But Irina and I have endless love to share. Visitors help us find our family: fathers and mothers, grandparents, uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, (grand)children, pets – and we also cherish some neighbors and friends as family. Now we are surrounded by 850 family members!
Phase 4aQuarreling
Families thrive on love, but sometimes there is friction. In a family as big as mine, conflicts are inevitable. I hadn’t noticed them yet, but depot visitors bring over 90 disputes to the table.
Phase 4bPeacemakers
But a quarrel should not last forever. I need help to solve these disputes. New family members are introduced by the team of Museum Boijmans staff: these are peacemakers who each know how to resolve the quarrels in their own way.
Phase 5Connecting families
My family expands far beyond the museum. This time, we meet artworks in private collections and discover that we have a lot in common! In this way the Boijmans family gets connected to other families of objects.
